Earliest musical memory:
My first musical memory is what I attribute to becoming a professional musician. My school district took the 4th grade every year to attend a live production of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker performed by the Ballet Guild of the Lehigh Valley (Pennsylvania). I remember being dazzled by the dancers on stage and completely mesmerized by the musicians in the pit from the Allentown Symphony Orchestra. Ever since then I have only ever thought of being a professional musician.

Best part of being a Salina Symphony musician:
Working with fellow musicians again! Due to the pandemic, I have spent nearly two years in quarantine and only able to perform a few times with my wife, Abigail Deiter, who is a soprano. As much as I love chamber music, I am excited to be returning to the large stage and sharing it with so many of my fellow musicians!

Favorite composers:
I do not have a favorite composer, but I have a favorite TYPE of composer. That type? Well it’s anyone who writes well for the clarinet of course!

What song best describes you when you first wake up in the morning?
Alive, Awake, Alert, Enthusiastic! If you can’t tell, I am a bit of a morning person.

What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?
Classic rock has a special place in my heart because I grew up listening to it every morning with my father as he took me and my brother to school.

How do you spend your free time?
Right now my wife and I really enjoy food/history shows and competitions. We recently finished High on the Hog and have recently started Baketopia.

Whom do you admire?
My wife, Abigail.

What is your greatest accomplishment?
Finishing my doctoral degree in the middle of a pandemic is something I will always be proud of.
